Agia Marina Countryside Stone Residence
Chania, Crete, Greece / 2020
ARENCOS has designed this private residence for a small Danish family on the outskirts of the sea-side resort of Agia Marina, referencing local architecture and materials.
Surrounded by farmland and olive groves, the house attempts to blend into the picturesque landscape, featuring simple volumes filled with local limestone and wood.
Our design concept focuses on the building aesthetics and functionality as well as the smooth blending with the natural surroundings.
The two-storey residence with basement expands in the built area of 185.00 sq.m., designed for a minimum impact on the surrounding olive grove.
Simple rectangular yet smooth volumes comprise the structure, with wide front openings to the unlimited sea view.
The excellent cooperation with the owner led to an attractive and rather functional interior design. A wide north front face and unlimited sea view through large openings.
Every aspect of the design has been considered to balance aesthetics, functionality, and long-term comfort, resulting in a home that is both elegant and practical. The project reflects a modern approach to Cretan living, combining timeless architectural principles with contemporary lifestyle requirements.
