Chania City Residential Property Renovation
Agioi Apostoloi, Chania City, Crete.
The design task was to renovate a two-storey residential property and stimulate the views towards the Souda Bay and the White Mountains.
The purity, simplicity, and rigour of the volumes of this property were intended to highlight both the interior and exterior areas of the structure by providing a balanced and efficient consistency to the whole.
The first decision was to clean the premises of all the existing partitions to restore the original concrete structure and thus reveal the true volume of the space. By internalising the original structure and style appearance into a new one we try to explore the deeper relationship between building and the context.
Earth tones are selected to support the idea of materiality and ensure a bright interior. The final result was achieved through the use of micro cement on the floor and the functional elements. The same texture is attained on the walls using the same tone of paint with an irregular plaster base.
Emphasis: The Power of Focus
In architectural design, emphasis is the deliberate disruption of a pattern. By introducing an unexpected form, color, or texture into a structured environment, we immediately guide the observer’s eye. It transforms a functional space into a memorable destination, ensuring that the core intent of the project is never lost in the background noise.
Unity: The Art of Balance
True unity is achieved when contrasting elements operate in perfect alignment to create a singular, cohesive experience. It isn’t about forced repetition; it is about establishing a thoughtful relationship between shape, scale, and color. When individual architectural choices complement one another seamlessly, they create a deep sense of visual harmony and structural calm.
